Where are you from?
I am a 6th generation South Floridian, born and raised in Jupiter, Fl.
What did you do before becoming a Monkey?
Before I moved to Miami and returned to college in January 2009, I tried a wide variety of careers, ranging from sushi and caviar waitress to family law legal assistant. I also interned at a yoga studio in Delray Beach, FL, and I feel the most at home surrounded by fellow yogis.
Why did you join Green Monkey?
Because it was fate! Ian Darrah (a GM instructor and friend of mine) invited me to a Monkey Mingle, and when I came and saw Myk, we realized we had met about a year ago, when Green Monkey was still in the planning stages. What are the odds that I would run into him again after so much time, and after finally moving to Miami? I started coming to classes, and was immediately drawn to the friendliness of the people and the purpose of Green Monkey. I′ve been hooked ever since!
What aspect of Green Monkey do you like the most?
I love that the purpose of GM is to bring balance in people′s lives. Because of this, there′s so much diversity in the classes and workshops offered. I think it′s important (and fun!) to try new things and discover what best suits me, and I feel encouraged to do that here.
If you could open a Tree House anywhere in the world, where would it be?
It would be awesome to have a Green Monkey somewhere around the Amazonian rainforest. Doing yoga surrounded by the "lungs of the earth" sounds like paradise to me...maybe it could even be a real tree house!
If you could choose any guest host for a Green Monkey event, who would it be?
Shiva Rea- she has an incredible way of combining dance with yoga (my two favorite activities) that is both physically challenging and liberating at the same time.
What helps keep your life in balance?
It′s simple- awareness. If I get caught up in the sounds, sights, and events constantly going on around me, I forget the importance of connecting with and recognizing myself. All I need to do is stop and listen, and I know what I need physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Personally, I like variety- a combination of meditation, contemplation, reading, creating art, writing, singing, laughing, qi gong, and of course, YOGA!
What are your favorite Green Monkey classes?
It′s impossible for me to pick a favorite style, but I really enjoy classes in the early mornings. I always feel more focused and accomplished for the rest of the day, and it’s great to do sun salutations when the sun is actually coming up! Also I highly recommend the workshops here. They are super informative about subjects I would never have researched on my own.
Your favorite pose?
It′s subject to change, but Eagle and other balancing poses are my favorites right now. I like what a mental and physical stretch they are.
Favorite quote?
“Oh soul,
you worry too much.
You have seen your own strength.
You have seen your own beauty.
You have seen your golden wings.
Of anything less,
why do you worry?
You are in truth
the soul, of the soul, of the soul." –Rumi
