ANDREA SCARBOROUGH

ANDREA SCARBOROUGH
Andrea_Malkiewisz_58

Introduced to her first yoga class over ten years ago, Andrea immediately rekindled a childhood love for inversions, splits and playing with balance that she developed during her time spent as a competitive gymnast.  Her continual exploration of a variety of styles of yoga, including Ashtanga, Anusara, Jivamukti, Bikram and Iyengar, coupled with her Vinyasa Yoga teaching certifications have enabled her to develop a unique combination of knowledge and ability which she translates into a challenging yet accessible practice for her students.    Further enriching her class experience is a deep love of music that continues to grow through her ongoing work in the music and entertainment industry.  Participants in her classes and private instruction can expect an inspiring and energetic yoga flow in which poses and breath are linked in creative sequences to an eclectic mix of music. When she’s not in the studio, you can find Andrea traveling and enjoying outdoor activities including Stand Up Paddle Boarding (asana practice on the ocean is FUN too!!!), mountain biking, hiking, skiing or running the occasional marathon.

ANDREA MALKIEWICZ

ANDREA MALKIEWICZ

Andrea has always loved movement, whether it is walking in the Adirondack Mountains, or training in  Ballet, Modern and Jazz.  It was the search later, as the mother of two boys, for a type of exercise that would be challenging physically as well as stress and mental angst-relieving.  Initially she became a student of  Kripalu Yoga, which teaches postures with much attention to alignment, getting the body in a steady, comfortable, healthy state, after which, the meditative, non-reactive, "witness" mind is cultivated.  This allows the ego to fade away along with our pre-conceived notions about ourselves, and the true essence of one’s′ being emerges.

After moving to Miami in ′99, she discovered Ashtanga yoga, which catches the body and mind of the practitioner in its tempo and momentous thrall, at once feeling as if one is flying high and being wrung out like a sponge.  This system of Yoga, with its heat and purification of both the physical body, nervous and endocrine  systems, would be amazing alone, but the crown jewel is the experience of our true selves, our higher self, bliss and peace that is too good not to share with whomever we come across.

ANDI DYAL

ANDI DYAL

Andi Dyal’s interest in Spinning began over 13 years ago when she started taking classes after high school with some friends.  Her teaching began a few years later when she started the fitness program at New York University during her freshman year, teaching an average of 15 classes per week.  She taught at the school for three years before moving to Barcelona and continuing her classes in this lovely Spanish city.  Upon her return to the Big Apple, she was hired to teach by New York Health and Racquet Club and also volunteered to start an annual Spin-a-Thon benefitting the American Cancer Society.  After three years organizing the event, over $70,000 was donated to the organization.  Her passion for Spinning and desire to help people build confidence and strength through exercise has brought her to Green Monkey.  She devotes her life to fitness and nutrition and is motivated by the success of her students.

AMY LITT RABIN

AMY LITT RABIN

I took my first yoga class about 15 years ago and have been sharing my love for the practice ever since.  My classes offer a fun and challenging mix of cardiovascular, strengthening, stretching, toning and purifying asanas.  I love teaching my students how to deepen their practice, getting into poses they thought were way beyond their level.  There′s nothing like the satisfaction that comes from sharing the "aha" moments of my practice with my students and seeing the blissful smiles after class!  Come move, sweat and groove to the transformative rhythm of your breath, while physically aligning and energetically balancing yourself.   Work your body, open your mind and nourish your soul while connecting with your inner source of peace, gratitude, acceptance and love.

MICHAEL LIKHOV

MICHAEL LIKHOV
CO-FOUNDER, PARTNER
>>> Myk founded Green Monkey with his friend Phil three years ago, after completing his MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. As a former finance professional and current yoga entrepreneur, he has developed particular perspective on the industry that has allowed him and the monkeys to build a thriving yoga business in South Florida.<<<

Where are you from?
Born in Moscow and raised in California.

What did you do before becoming a Monkey?
My professional background is in finance, mostly working with hi-tech companies in Europe. Prior to starting Green Monkey, I was in business school at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where I had short stints at Equinox Fitness and Warner Music Group.

Why did you start Green Monkey?
I always knew that I was going to run my own business, and when I was 25, a spiritual teacher gave me the seed of an idea that has now become Green Monkey. While I was still in my MBA, my best friend and I decided to start a company rather than going back into the finance grind, and we brainstormed many days at his family’s olive oil ranch in Ojai, California. We wanted to build a positive business, and for it to be aligned with our personal goals of health, happiness, and fun. That’s how in June of 2007, Phil and I started the Green Monkey.

What aspect of Green Monkey do you like the most?
I love the community aspect. The world needs places for positive people to congregate and pursue personal growth. Starbucks doesn’t cut it anymore.

If you could open a Tree House anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Rome, Italy. At the top of the Spanish Steps.

What helps keep your life in balance?
Music. I need to have music in my life.

What are your favorite Green Monkey classes?
Funyasa

Your favorite pose?
Supta Vajrasana. You have to get there, but once you do you just lay back and chill.

Favorite quote?
“Reasonable people adapt themselves to the world. Unreasonable people attempt to adapt the world to themselves. All progress, therefore, depends on unreasonable people.” (Lazarus Long, fictional character)

Sopris and the river. Between the wonderful natural environment and the great people in this area, it would be the perfect place for a Tree House.

If you could choose any guest host for a Green Monkey event, who would it be?

Alex Grey, mystical visionary artist.

What helps keep your life in balance?

Music is my center. It drives me to be stronger, smarter, work harder, and be happier, in everything.

What are your favorite Green Monkey classes?

I love Marisa’s Saturday morning classes. They are the most fun, because I always learn something new. And Cat′s Yogathletics classes have the best energy and the best music!

Your favorite pose?

Titibasana, the firefly pose. I’m still working on it, but maybe one day I’ll do it as well as Marisa taught me.

Favorite quote?

"If you need something to worship, then worship life — all life, every last crawling bit of it! We′re all in this beauty together!"

-Dune

KELLY SEARCY

KELLY SEARCY

Where are you from?

I am a 6th generation South Floridian, born and raised in Jupiter, Fl.

What did you do before becoming a Monkey?

Before I moved to Miami and returned to college in January 2009, I tried a wide variety of careers, ranging from sushi and caviar waitress to family law legal assistant. I also interned at a yoga studio in Delray Beach, FL, and I feel the most at home surrounded by fellow yogis.

Why did you join Green Monkey?

Because it was fate! Ian Darrah (a GM instructor and friend of mine) invited me to a Monkey Mingle, and when I came and saw Myk, we realized we had met about a year ago, when Green Monkey was still in the planning stages. What are the odds that I would run into him again after so much time, and after finally moving to Miami? I started coming to classes, and was immediately drawn to the friendliness of the people and the purpose of Green Monkey. I′ve been hooked ever since!

What aspect of Green Monkey do you like the most?

I love that the purpose of GM is to bring balance in people′s lives. Because of this, there′s so much diversity in the classes and workshops offered. I think it′s important (and fun!) to try new things and discover what best suits me, and I feel encouraged to do that here.

If you could open a Tree House anywhere in the world, where would it be?

It would be awesome to have a Green Monkey somewhere around the Amazonian rainforest. Doing yoga surrounded by the "lungs of the earth" sounds like paradise to me...maybe it could even be a real tree house!

If you could choose any guest host for a Green Monkey event, who would it be?

Shiva Rea- she has an incredible way of combining dance with yoga (my two favorite activities) that is both physically challenging and liberating at the same time.

What helps keep your life in balance?

It′s simple- awareness. If I get caught up in the sounds, sights, and events constantly going on around me, I forget the importance of connecting with and recognizing myself. All I need to do is stop and listen, and I know what I need physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Personally, I like variety- a combination of meditation, contemplation, reading, creating art, writing, singing, laughing, qi gong, and of course, YOGA!

What are your favorite Green Monkey classes?

It′s impossible for me to pick a favorite style, but I really enjoy classes in the early mornings. I always feel more focused and accomplished for the rest of the day, and it’s great to do sun salutations when the sun is actually coming up! Also I highly recommend the workshops here. They are super informative about subjects I would never have researched on my own.

Your favorite pose?

It′s subject to change, but Eagle and other balancing poses are my favorites right now. I like what a mental and physical stretch they are.

Favorite quote?

“Oh soul,

you worry too much.

You have seen your own strength.

You have seen your own beauty.

You have seen your golden wings.

Of anything less,

why do you worry?

You are in truth

the soul, of the soul, of the soul." –Rumi

Zodiac Animal?

Where are you from?

I was born in Michigan and lived in Hawaii before moving to Miami for college.

What did you do before becoming a Monkey?

Before I was a monkey I worked and was a full time student, then got involved with the company BalanceBoost with Tiffany and became involved with Green Monkey from there.

Why did you join Green Monkey?

I joined Green Monkey because I thought the motivation behind the company was well intentioned and loved the people involved.

What aspect of Green Monkey do you like the most?

I love the community, whether it′s the customers, owners, or other employees everyone just comes together with the same purpose and everyone has something different and awesome to contribute.

If you could open a Tree House anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Upcountry Maui, we would fit in like a puzzle piece over there. Maybe someday we′ll make it across the ocean.

What helps keep your life in balance?

One of the most important things in my life are my friends, family and coworkers. The important people around me let me know

when I′m doing too much, not enough or getting out of touch with who I am. I would be a lost and out of control mess without them.

What are your favorite Green Monkey classes?

Some of my fellow Monkeys may scold me for not taking enough classes, but I rock it in any of the beginning levels - slow and steady wins the race, right?

Your favorite pose?

Probably downward dog because it appears to be the one I am mastering the fastest.

Favorite quote?

"There is neither happiness nor unhappiness in this world; there is only the comparison of one state with another." The Count of Mote Cristo.

What did you do before becoming a Monkey?

Evidence highly suggests that before evolving into a Monkey I must have been a fish, or a squirrel, faithfully fulfilling my duties as such fine creatures by avoiding the Hook and collecting forest nuts for winter.

Why did you join Green Monkey?

Because I was born with a tail.

What aspect of Green Monkey do you like the most?

The howler monkeys that live on the roof. Whenever I get waay too serious they lighten up my day with a banana peel to the face.

If you could open a Tree House anywhere in the world, where would it be? Why?

The Na Pali Coast, North Shore, Kauai. Preferably in the valley of Honopu. Cercopithecoids are suspiciously missing in this corner of Eden and, well, you have to be a real monkey to get to it.

If you could choose any guest host for a Green Monkey event, who would it be?

Ace Ventura, Pet Detective. I imagine this animal lover could give an intuitive seminar on the ills and immoralities of the carnivore. He may even teach us how to weave a shawl out of asparagus and brussel sprouts. You′re a strange guy, Ace, but boy, you blow my mind!

What helps keep your life in balance?

A cold beer, juicy red Steak and a roll-your-own Organic cigarette.

What are your favorite Green Monkey classes?

The class going on right Now!

Savasana

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

Showcase Andrea S.
