Ecofriendly for Your Ears

Since 2007, singer-song writer Jack Johnson has been making melodies in his environmentally friendly music studio in Los Angeles, CA. Brushfire Records Studio uses solar power, energy efficient appliances, reused denim insulation (Yes! Your blue jeans can insolate a house!), and recycled furniture and building materials. Like his 2008 album, Sleep Through the Static, Johnson’s latest album, To the Sea, released this month, was created using 100% solar energy and 100% post-consumer waste recycled paper. Rocking the ′1% for the Planet′ logo, his recent albums join the efforts of 1,100 other companies to donate 1% of their sales to a network of more than 1,700 environmental organizations worldwide. Not only does Johnson promote a green lifestyle in his music (insert his song from the Curious George soundtrack here, “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”), but he makes an effort to get the word out about other non-profit and environmental events through his social action network, All At Once. This year the organization is focusing on sustainable agriculture and promoting community and school garden projects.
